Lots done already...

I stayed up way too late. It was 4 am by the time I got to bed. A late workout, late dinner (Oriental Chicken salad. YUM!), and wrestling with Orbitz to get tickets to denver to see friends, my cousin, and maybe do some Colorado-inspired artwork.

I say wrestling because I was trying to coincide the trip hope to be the same as Bennie's. He's going out earlier to get some work done on a work-related project with Triggur. We went through several rounds of chosing flights, meals, seats, and entering payment info only to be greeted with "The fares have changed, please try again!" or "One of the flights on your trip is now full! Please try again!" Rarrg. What the heck is going on in Denver that flights were filling so fast? It sort of worked out ok, though. We fiddled with dates and got a nice, low fare, one stop each way; Kansis City, MO on the way out, Charlotte, NC on the way back.

Anyhow, 4 am to bed, 8:30 am to rise. I had intended to sleep till 10, but that wasn't gonna happen. An upset tummy drove me out of bed and then I couldn't get back to sleep. Oh, well. I'd set aside today to really tear into the garden anyway, and getting out there early, before it got too hot, was a good diea. I'd been neglecting the garden to work on the book and some other stuff and then it got too blasted hot, then AC, then still too hot. I did a lot of work ahead of time the other day when I heard today would be cooler. So, from 9:30am till 11am, I was wearing a big, floppy straw hat and sunglasses, and tearing out weeds.

There are few things as satisfying as grabbing onto a weed with both hands and yanking it from the soil. It helped that the soil was soft from rain. The pulling can still be tough, but you're less likely to break the tap root.

A good work out at the gym, an hour and a half in the garden, and light meals. This is a good thing!

I think later, I'll trim the grass, get all the weeds bagged, and then take a little nap, then ink Monday's strip, and then work on coloring for overdue badges.

You know what I find annoying, too...like bus trips, air travel should also allow you for potentially frequent stops. The last couple times I booked a ticket, it allowed you for a maximum of 2 stops, sometimes which was more expensive than a nonstop flight. Sure, everybody wants a nonstop flight, but if I can get a cheaper fare by making four or five transfers across the country, I'd totally go for it. It'd be no biggie, I think.

Goodluck on your trip!

Do you know how much fuel it takes to get a plane off the ground? :)

Short hops are more expensive than long hauls, even before you factor all the 'downtime'* on the turn around, and all the hassle the extra take offs and landings cause for airports, delaying other flights and such.

* Time the airplane is not making any money for the company.

Well, I can give it to you in pounds, assuming you have the weight, pressure altitude, temp, and winds. Oh, and I'll need runway length and details on the climb clearway to compute reduced thrust... *cough* Sorry, geeked out there a bit. :)

In all seriousness, I've never heard of Skye's restriction before. The flights themselves are set up years in advance and based on predictions of how many folks want to go from A to B, not how many will go through B to get to C. But I can see a rationale for a restriction on how many hops you can put yourself on when there's nonstops that will get you there more directly.

We want to get you there and get rid of you. :) Every leg on the way is a greater potential for something to go wrong and have us stuck with you on a delay or a cancel. Thus, they put a ban on excessive silliness with routings.

Oh, I've been known to dabble... :)

I'm an RJ Captain and the Assistant Director of Flight Operations Technology for one of the larger commuter airlines.

If you have a long layover in Charlotte, take advantage of the rocking chairs they have in all the concourses. They are spectacularly comfortable, and if you're really crazy about them, you can purchase one and have it shipped home.

Don't know much about about the inside of Char-Doug, I don't fly much (money not that I don't love flying, I do). But it's interesting to see interesting folk flying through my back yard.

What the heck concourses are those on? I've NEVER seen them and I always get stuck in Charlotte for a layover, even if my destination is in entirely the opposite direction.

Ah, yes - the satisfaction that comes from tugging at a stubborn root, getting a good hold round the base right at ground level and tugging...

...and you pull out a good two feet of tough, fibrous root! Priceless!

I want pictures! C'mon it'd either look cute or comical depending on how floppy the hat. :)
